Another very successful training season
The 2010 training courses offered by the Seafarers’ Training Institute (STI)
in cooperation with the participating companies was, once again, a very
successful training program. Members who attended the training courses
dispensed by professional instructors reported they enjoyed the theoretical and
practical sessions offered. They were particularly pleased with the emphasis
given by the instructors on the development of methods to work more safely and
efficiently.
The courses were offered this winter to AB’s, mechanical assistants,
tunnelmen and galley personnel.
Members who attended the courses offered this winter are featured on pages
8 and 9 of this edition of The Canadian Sailor. They deserve our congratulations
and we wish them success in their career.
More training ahead
The STI Technical Committee will undertake, over the coming months, a
thorough review of all training programs offered by STI, including course
contents. The primary objective is to ensure our training programs cover all
areas and meet the requirements of the Marine Occupational Health and Safety
(MOHS) Regulations made pursuant to the Canada Labour Code.
In addition to ensuring S.I.U. members continue to receive the best and
most updated training, STI trustees want to give members who have attended
our training courses five years ago or more, the opportunity to be brought up to
date on the latest information available to protect their health and safety.
More information on the programs that will be offered next winter will be
provided in the forthcoming editions of The Canadian Sailor.
Keep your personal file updated

We take this opportunity to remind all members of the importance to advise
the Records Department of any changes in their personal information, such as

may advise their employers of changes to important information but your
Records Department should also be notified to make sure you receive the

communications from your Union.
Enjoy a good season and work safely.
